“Education and social relations are two important aspects of the cooperation between Türkiye and Malaysia”

Speaking at the honorary doctorate presentation ceremony held at Universiti Malaya in Malaysia, President Erdoğan said: “Despite their geographical distance, Türkiye and Malaysia, which are located in the two different sides of Asia, are, in fact, two friendly, brotherly and partner countries. Education and social relations are two important aspects of the cooperation between Türkiye and Malaysia.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, delivered a speech at Universiti Malaya, where he was presented with an honorary doctorate degree.

President Erdoğan said: “Despite their geographical distance, Türkiye and Malaysia, which are located in the two different sides of Asia, are, in fact, two friendly, brotherly and partner countries. We elevated this partnership to strategic partnership level in 2014, and to comprehensive strategic partnership level in 2022. Education and social relations are two important aspects of the cooperation between Türkiye and Malaysia. Our academic relations have gained momentum since 1980. Due to the repressive and oppressive mindset that once prevailed in our country, many of our young students came here, received education and made academic career. Thanks be to Allah, we left those days behind in our country. Today we as Türkiye provide higher education to nearly 340 thousand international students from over 190 countries in our country. Thanks to scholarships, many young brothers and sisters of ours continue to receive education in both Türkiye and Malaysia.”

Drawing attention to the Turkish courses given at the university since 2019 in cooperation between Universiti Malaya and Yunus Emre Cultural Center of Türkiye, President Erdoğan noted: “One of the reasons of Malaysia becoming a center of attraction in education is Universiti Malaya that operates under the administration of Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak. I know that Mr. Prime Minister is also a graduate of Universiti Malaya. The university, which ranks 60th in QS World University Rankings 2025, plays a distinguished role with its 40 thousand students in the academic life and researches in Malaysia.”

Prior to the ceremony President Erdoğan met with Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak.
