“Our duty is to prepare Istanbul for an earthquake before disaster knocks on our door”

Holding a press conference following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan, concerning the 6.2-magnitude earthquake in Istanbul, said: “It is now time to produce solutions, not excuses. Our duty, regardless of our posts, is to prepare as soon as possible our city for an earthquake before disaster knocks on our door. We should join forces and act collectively to that end.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex.

“GAZA BELONGS TO THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE”

Reminding the meeting of the Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine held on April 18, President Erdoğan underlined Türkiye’s support to the Palestinian cause, and said: “Just like East al-Quds and the West Bank, Gaza, too, belongs to the Palestinian people. Our Gazan brothers and sister will inshallah continue to live forever on the lands they were born. The Palestinian people has repeatedly shown, despite all difficulties and barbarities, that they will not surrender, they will not leave their homeland, or they will not bow down to the oppressor.”

“NOTHING CAN BE ACHIEVED BY SHEDDING FURTHER BLOOD”

“The last 18 months have witnessed not only the cruelest massacres of the past century in Gaza, but also an epic resistance that would be a source of pride for all the humanity. All should realize that nothing can be achieved by shedding further blood, by killing more children, or by leaving people without food, water or medication. Everyone should come to their senses and not loutishly waste the windows of opportunity that open up for our region’s stability. We want it, and we work for it. And whatever we say, we say for the peace, security and peaceful co-existence of all the peoples in the region. We will inshallah continue to work for peace and stability from now on as well,” President Erdoğan stated.

“WE DO NOT WANT NEW CONFLICTS IN OR BEYOND OUR REGION”

Drawing attention to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Türkiye, President Erdoğan noted that they discussed Türkiye and Pakistan’s multidimensional cooperation, notably in trade and defense industry, and added: “We reiterated our strong support for the brotherly Palestinian people. As Türkiye we point out at every opportunity that we do not want new conflicts in or beyond our region. We want the escalating tension between Pakistan and India to be immediately defused before it evolves into graver situations. We are closely following the process with our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other units.”

4TH TÜRKİYE-ITALY INTERGOVERNMENTAL SUMMIT

Also touching upon the explosion in a port in the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday, President Erdoğan extended his condolences, on behalf of Türkiye and the Turkish nation, to Iran for those who lost their lives in the explosion, and went on to say: “We continue our busy agenda in foreign policy at the same pace. We will inshallah go to Italy tomorrow for the 4th Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit. And at weekend we will be in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for both to inaugurate the newly-completed projects and to share the enthusiasm of our youth at TEKNOFEST.”

Also pointing to the 6.2-magnitude earthquake in Istanbul, said: “It is now time to produce solutions, not excuses. Our duty, regardless of our posts, is to prepare as soon as possible our city for an earthquake before disaster knocks on our door. We should join forces and act collectively to that end.”
