President Erdoğan addressed the nation after the Cabinet Meeting
Delivering remarks following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan said: “Türkiye is a country that cannot be confined to a single bloc due to its geographical, social, economic and historical ties. Strengthening our cooperation with other regions from Asia to Africa and Latin America is as important to us as improving our relations with the Western world.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex.
“NATO SUMMIT REAFFIRMED TÜRKİYE’S INDISPENSABLE ROLE WITHIN THE ALLIANCE”
Drawing attention to the recent NATO Summit held in Washington, D.C. on July 9-11, President Erdoğan underscored that the Summit reaffirmed Türkiye’s indispensable role within NATO, and said: “We voiced our expectations from our allies regarding such vital issues as defense industry and anti-terror fight at this historic Summit, which coincided with the 75th anniversary of the Alliance. We are way far away from the cooperation we desire on both of the topics. The weapons given our country with extreme reluctance are found in the hideaways of the separatist terrorist organization, let alone the thousands of truckloads of weapons and ammunition sent to PKK’s Syria extension. We come across efforts aimed at raising difficulties in some critical materials regarding defense industry trade. It is obvious that these efforts do not comply with the alliance solidarity and the spirit of alliance, which are the supporting pillars of NATO. During our talks, we explained that these problems need to be swiftly solved.”
“STOPPING ISRAEL IS A MUST FOR THE PEACE AND SECURITY OF THE ENTIRE WORLD”
Stating that the ongoing massacre in Gaza since October 7 was also on the agenda of both the Summit’s sessions and their bilateral meetings, President Erdoğan went on to say: “We underlined that stopping Israel is a must not only for our region, but the peace and security of the entire world. We as Türkiye have mobilized all the means to force the current Israeli administration for a ceasefire. Halting trade activities between the two countries was one of these means and our decision to intervene in the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice was another. We use the means we have within NATO to that end as well. We will not approve of the initiatives aimed at building cooperation with Israel within NATO until a lasting peace is established in Palestine. We outspokenly underlined our resolute stance on this issue at the Summit. We will not change our attitude towards Israel as long as they maintain their policy of genocide, occupation and massacre in Gaza and in other Palestinian territories.”
“TÜRKİYE STAND READY TO ASSUME ANY ROLE FOR PEACE”
Also praising the resistance of the Palestinian people in the face of Israel’s oppression, atrocity and brutality, President Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s readiness to assume any role, including guarantorship, in order for peace and calm to prevail in the region, and added: “Türkiye is a country that cannot be confined to a single bloc due to its geographical, social, economic and historical ties. Strengthening our cooperation with other regions from Asia to Africa and Latin America is as important to us as improving our relations with the Western world. We will never allow anyone to confine us to their own constricted patterns.”
“WE HAVE TAKEN HISTORIC STEPS TO WIDEN TÜRKİYE’S AREA OF INFLUENCE”
“We neither turn our back on the East for the West nor neglect the West for the East. In line with our country’s interests, we may improve our relations with anyone, starting from our neighbors. With this understanding, we have taken historic steps to widen the area of influence of Türkiye in the past 22 years. We have provided Türkiye, which was confined to engagements of the Cold War era, with a 360-degree foreign policy vision. We have strengthened our relations with even the countries, which were once against us, on the basis of mutual respect and common interests. We have succeeded all this despite the discussions of axis shift triggered by circles known by all. We will inshallah maintain this approach of ours with new steps,” President Erdoğan stressed.
“WE WAKE UP TO A NEW CRISIS IN OUR REGION AND BEYOND”
Also drawing attention to the attempted assassination of the former U.S. President and the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump last weekend, President Erdoğan said: “I condemn once again the assassination attempt and wish a speedy recovery to Mr. Trump, his family and supporters on behalf of myself and my nation. Almost every morning we wake up to a new crisis in our region and beyond. Uncertainties in many areas, particularly in economy, security and trade, are on the rise. We see that these uncertainties are deliberately not prevented. New quests for balance increasingly continue in the global system. We as the government do not deviate from our goals despite this negative climate. We are exerting intensive efforts for the construction of the Century of Türkiye, which is the greatest legacy we will leave our children.”
Recalling the launch of the TURKSAT 6A, President Erdoğan stressed that with TURKSAT 6A, Türkiye has placed itself among the top 11 countries that produce communication satellites, and noted: “Our new satellite will be a milestone in the efforts aimed at reducing the foreign dependence. With the entry into service of TURKSAT 6A, we will increase the population, which the Turkish satellites reach, to 5 billion from 3.5 billion.”
