President Erdoğan performs Friday prayer in Istanbul

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered reporters’ questions after performing the Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul.

Asked his thoughts on how the United Nations should be restructured, President Erdoğan recalled his motto, “the World is bigger than five”, and criticized that the five permanent members of the UN Security Council are free to make every decision easily.

Stressing that the 15 non-permanent members do not wield any influence over the UN Security Council decisions, President Erdoğan said that these five permanent members are actually in a position of ruling, of governing the world. Pointing out that even though countries such as Türkiye, Japan and Germany make attempts to be a permanent member, they don’t have any influence since they are not permanent members.

Türkiye has also been trying to be a permanent member; however, the permanent members do not have any such intention as to make Ankara a permanent member, the President added.

MEETING WITH GREEK PRIME MINISTER MITSOTAKIS

Answering a question about his meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Erdoğan stated that high on the agenda of their meeting were the High-Level Strategic Council and the problems in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“We will hold the High-Level Strategic Council Meeting early next year. Mr. Çağatay, the Ambassador, is currently maintaining talks with his counterparts. We will most probably come together early next year depending on the outcomes of the ongoing talks,” President Erdoğan said.

MEETING WITH ARMENIAN PRIME MINISTER

Drawing attention to the positive stance displayed by the both countries, President Erdoğan voiced his expectation for Azerbaijan and Armenia to resolve their problems by preserving their positive approach.
