President Erdoğan sends video message to 10th World Halal Summit
In his video message to the 10th World Halal Summit held in Istanbul, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that halal-certified products and services are clean, healthy, and respectful of religious sensitivities, enabling this market with a capacity of more than $5 trillion to expand even further.
President Erdoğan noted the following:
“This year, the World Halal Summit will welcome over 1,000 companies and approximately 50,000 visitors from more than 110 countries, making it the world's largest halal organisation.
I believe that the discussions to be held during the Summit, themed "A Decade of Halal Success: Uniting Vision, Shaping the Future", will open up new opportunities for companies, institutions and consumers in the sector.
The business forums that will be held as part of the Summit will lead to the formation of new partnerships and the realisation of new investments between the participating companies.
We are taking firm steps towards transforming our country, the heart of three continents, into a global production hub.
We believe that it is our duty to support everyone who is making efforts to unlock the potential of the Turkish economy without any distinction between domestic and foreign capital.
We have demonstrated the significance we place on this matter by establishing the Halal Accreditation Agency in our country.
Furthermore, we have taken critical steps to protect consumers' health by introducing various regulations on food safety.
In order to mitigate health risks and guarantee the safe consumption of food by society, we meticulously implement the Turkish Food Codex, which we regulate in accordance with international food safety standards.
Moreover, we conduct rigorous chemical, microbiological, and physicochemical inspections on food samples, utilising our increased number of control laboratories.
Certification and standardisation play a crucial role in ensuring that consumers have access to halal-certified products and services, as well as facilitating the global trade of halal products and services.
We, therefore, place tremendous importance on the endeavours of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries, which was established in 2010.
Once again, I would like to extend an invitation to all member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to join the Institute. This would help resolve any disagreements, conflicts, and insecurities related to halal certification.
At a time when there is a greater need than ever for clean, healthy, and safe food, I congratulate our institutions for pioneering this event and extend my warm greetings to you.”
