President Erdoğan spoke at the 8th Anatolian Media Awards ceremony

Addressing the 8th Anatolian Media Awards Ceremony, President Erdoğan said: “We grasp the importance of publishing that focuses its agenda on the nation and national values more and more clearly each passing day. Anatolian publishers have displayed a truly praiseworthy stance in all the critical junctures we have encountered in the past 12-13 years. As the Anatolian media, you fearlessly defended our democracy on the night of July 15 while some others pursued a ‘wait-and-see policy’.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the 8th Anatolian Media Awards Ceremony, held by the Anadolu Publishers Federation at the Presidential Complex.

Congratulating the awardees, President Erdoğan said: “We grasp the importance of publishing that focuses its agenda on the nation and national values more and more clearly each passing day. Anatolian publishers have displayed a truly praiseworthy stance in all the critical junctures we have encountered in the past 12-13 years. You openly sided with the nation during the Gezi incidents - when our streets were set on fire and the property and even the life of the people were targeted - while some others kept on praising the pro-Gezi vandals via round-the-clock live broadcasts. You became the voice of the national will while those allegedly glorious media outlets served the December 17-25 coup attempt.”

“ANATOLIAN MEDIA FEARLESSLY DEFENDED OUR DEMOCRACY ON THE NIGHT OF JULY 15”

Underscoring that the Anatolian media fearlessly defended the Turkish democracy on the night of July 15 while some others pursued a ‘wait-and-see policy’, President Erdoğan stated: “We always felt your sincere support on our side in a wide range of developments, from terror attacks to the conflicts in our region. I offer my gratitude to each and every one of you for supporting our democracy.”

Noting that Anatolian publishers determinedly maintain their conscientious and principled stance against the ongoing massacre in Gaza as well, President Erdoğan said: “I offer my congratulations since you uphold the legacy and endeavors of your journalist colleagues martyred by Israeli forces in Palestine. It is our humanitarian duty towards the Palestinian people to oppose this mode of craziness, which tests not only how Muslim but also how human we are. No one with an undrained conscience can remain silent to this oppression. However, those who lectured us on press freedom throughout years keep silent in the face of the incidents occurring in the occupied Palestinian territories. No one except a handful of conscientious people like you is defending the rights of the nearly 150 journalists killed in Israeli attacks.”
