President Erdoğan spoke at the COP29 World Leaders Climate Summit

Addressing the COP 29 High-Level Segment for Heads of State and Government, President Erdoğan said: “We have put into practice our climate change adaptation and mitigation strategic action plan that covers the years between 2024 and 2030. We have increased the share of the renewable energy within the total installed power to 59 percent. With this rate, we rank 5th in Europe and 11th in the world. Our fundamental priorities for our 2053 Net Zero Emission target are renewable energy, energy efficiency and nuclear energy.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the High-Level Segment for Heads of State and Government of the World Leaders Climate Action Summit of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“WE HAVE DECLARED WATER EFFICIENCY MOBILIZATION”

Underscoring that Türkiye is among the countries, which intensely suffer from the adverse effects of the climate crisis, President Erdoğan said: “We handed in our two-year transparency report and long-term climate strategy to the secretariat prior to the COP29. We have put into practice our climate change adaptation and mitigation strategic action plan that covers the years between 2024 and 2030. We have increased the share of the renewable energy within the total installed power to 59 percent. With this rate, we rank 5th in Europe and 11th in the world. Our fundamental priorities for our 2053 Net Zero Emission target are renewable energy, energy efficiency and nuclear energy.

Stressing that they have also declared water efficiency mobilization for the effective use of water resources, and designated November 11 as the National Afforestation Day, President Erdoğan noted: “Obviously, all these efforts have high economic costs. I believe that a climate finance goal that will meet especially the needs of developing countries will be set at this Summit in order to make our global struggle stronger and more efficient.”

“ISRAEL’S LAWLESS ATTACKS TARGETING PALESTINE AND LEBANON CONTINUE”

President Erdoğan continued as follows: “We adopted the Pact for the Future at the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations to build a fair and sustainable world, which respects nature, for future generations. Today, as we speak of leaving future generations a fairer world here, Israel’s lawless, immoral and unscrupulous attacks targeting Palestine and Lebanon continue. The current administration unfortunately keeps massacring people, ignoring whether they are children, women or elderly, and causing a great environmental destruction. The chemicals leaked to soil and underground water due to Israeli attacks have already destroyed the future of the children of Gaza. We think that those, who have caused this grave humanitarian and environmental disaster, must be held to account before international courts.”
