President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and members of the Supreme Military Council visited Anıtkabir (Atatürk’s Mausoleum) before the meeting of the Supreme Military Council.
President Erdoğan, accompanied by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Chief of General Staff Gen. Metin Gürak, Land Forces Commander Gen. Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Naval Forces Commander Adm. Ercüment Tatlıoğlu and Air Forces Commander Gen. Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, proceeded to Atatürk’s tomb through the Lion Road.
After President Erdoğan laid a wreath at the mausoleum, a moment of silence was observed and the national anthem was sung.
Later on, President Erdoğan wrote the following in the Anıtkabir Special Book at the Misak-ı Millî Tower:
“August Atatürk, we as the members of the Supreme Military Council once again remember with grace Your Excellency and our gallant martyrs, and wish that the 2024 Meeting of our Council will lead to auspicious outcomes for our country, nation and the Turkish Armed Forces. In a critical period when uncertainties increase in the world, and political assassinations as well as hot conflicts are carried out in our geography, Türkiye distinguishes itself as a beacon of stability and peace.
We are determined to always protect our country, nation, state and national interests by taking all kinds of measures against expansionist ambitions that have recently re-emerged. We will not allow those who seek to turn our region into a sea of blood, and continue to be a source of confidence for our friends as well as our own citizens. Rest in peace!”
