“Regional countries cannot achieve stability without peace in Gaza”

Speaking at a joint press conference with President Subianto of Indonesia, President Erdoğan said: “It is not possible for the other countries in the region to achieve stability until Gaza and Palestinians find peace.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia held a joint press conference following their bilateral meeting in Bogor.

Recalling his last visit to Indonesia in 2022 on the occasion of the G-20 Leaders' Summit, President Erdoğan said: “Today we are here together on the occasion of the first meeting of our High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. I would like to thank Mr. President and the Indonesian authorities for their sincere hospitality.”

“OUR HISTORICAL TIES WITH INDONESIA DATE BACK MORE THAN 400 YEARS”

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations. However, our historical and social ties with Indonesia date back more than 400 years. Inspired by this strong bond, we crowned our relations with the strategic partnership we declared in 2011. With today's council meeting, we have further institutionalized our relations. We discussed our relations comprehensively both during our meeting with my dear brother Prabowo and during the consultations between the delegations. We also exchanged views on current regional and global issues, particularly Palestine and Syria,” President Erdoğan said.

“WE ATTACH IMPORTANCE TO DIVERSIFYING OUR ECONOMIC RELATIONS”

Noting that they signed 13 agreements in various fields such as energy, agriculture, trade and defense industry, communication and education, President Erdoğan said: “My esteemed brother and I adopted a comprehensive joint statement guiding the future of our relations. We reviewed existing projects and additional cooperation opportunities in the defense industry. In our meetings, we discussed what we can do to increase our trade to $10 billion and balance it. We attach importance to diversifying our economic relations in the fields of health, construction, energy, food and halal products. In particular, we would like our construction companies, which have accomplished successful projects around the world, to take part in the construction process of Indonesia's new capital Nusantara.”

Underlining the importance of increasing social contacts between Türkiye and Indonesia, President Erdoğan said: “We emphasized the need to increase the number of flights of our flag carrier airlines. Last year, 203 thousand tourists from Indonesia visited our country and approximately 50 thousand tourists from our country visited Indonesia. While these figures are pleasing, they are far below our potential.”

“We are pleased to observe the increasing interest of Indonesian youth in Türkiye Scholarships. We see each of our nearly 5 thousand Indonesian brothers and sisters who have studied in our country as cultural ambassadors. Yunus Emre Institute, Maarif Foundation and TIKA will continue to contribute to our cooperation in these areas,” President Erdoğan said.

“We are committed to improving our relations with ASEAN and its members. As the host of the ASEAN secretariat, we count on Indonesia's support in strengthening our country's cooperation with ASEAN. We also agreed to increase our engagement in multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, G-20, MIKTA, D-8 and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,” President Erdoğan said.

“WE APPRECIATE INDONESIA'S STANCE ON THE PALESTINIAN ISSUE”

Praising Indonesia's stance on the Palestinian issue, President Erdoğan said: “We appreciate Indonesia's stance on the Palestinian issue. In the coming period, we will continue to work with Indonesia in rebuilding Gaza and defending the Palestinian cause. Let me underline once again; the establishment of a sovereign, territorially-integral State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders, with East al-Quds as its capital cannot be delayed any longer. Any step, any proposal, any project that erodes this is, in our view, illegitimate and means more conflict, more bloodshed and instability. It is not possible for the other countries in the region to achieve stability until Gaza and Palestinians find peace. The total damage caused by 15 months of Israeli aggression is close to $100 billion. Let us keep in mind that; the legal principle is to collect the damages from the perpetrator.”
