Speaking at the International Holy Quran Recitation Contest, President Erdoğan said: “The Islamic geography, especially in the last two centuries, has been the target of many attacks and insidious plans designed around the divide and rule approach. Sometimes our ethnic and sectarian, and sometimes cultural differences have been placed at the center of these treacherous plans.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the International Holy Quran Recitation Contest at the Presidential Complex.
“The Islamic geography, especially in the last two centuries, has been the target of many attacks and insidious plans designed around the divide and rule approach. Sometimes our ethnic and sectarian, and sometimes cultural differences have been placed at the center of these treacherous plans. The walls that have been built between us for 200 years have unfortunately pushed us away from each other day by day. The mortar of these walls was mixed with an imperialist mentality. The bricks of these walls were raised with discord, hatred and hostility. The borders drawn by these walls have always been an obstacle in our way. The Islamic lands, which until very recently were the centers of benevolence, justice and virtue, are unfortunately not in their former power today. It saddens me to say that the sense of unity, brotherhood and affection among us has not reached the levels we desire,” President Erdoğan said.
“WE MUST GLORIFY OUR UNITY, SOLIDARITY AND BROTHERHOOD”
Pointing to the current global turbulences which signals a radical change, President Erdoğan said: “The wars, conflicts and unstable processes that we cannot resolve demonstrate again and again that these events are inevitable. If we want to reverse this bad trend, if we want to redirect the course of history, we must first and foremost glorify our unity, solidarity and brotherhood. We have to shake this lethargy as soon as possible without giving way to the global powers that aim to stop us from our path through vicious agendas and artificial debates.”
“Let me say this with all sincerity; At this point, we do not have many alternatives. Either we will return to our origins, embrace our roots, remove the walls between us and our core values that give us strength, or we will continue to regret our shortcomings. Believe me, we cannot get out of the vortex they are dragging us and our region into in any other way. In this respect, we have no other way but to act with a sense of unity both at home and on international platforms. We have to tear off this mantle that has been imposed on us. I believe with all my heart that we will do this sooner or later and that we will overcome this spiral of silence,” President Erdoğan said.
