“Türkiye and Pakistan are two great countries tied to each other with an unshakable spirit of brotherhood”

Speaking at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Sharif of Pakistan, President Erdoğan said: “Türkiye and Pakistan are two great countries tied to each other with an ancient and unshakable spirit of brotherhood.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan held a joint press conference following their tête-à-tête, the meeting between the delegations and the signing ceremony of agreements in Islamabad

President Erdoğan said: “I am delighted to be in Pakistan that we see as our second home. Türkiye and Pakistan are two great countries tied to each other with an ancient and unshakable spirit of brotherhood. The support provided by the Muslims living on these lands to our Çanakkale victory and War of Independence, and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the founders of Pakistan, getting inspiration from our Republic are the most striking examples of our unique relations.”

“WE HAVE AGREED ON FURTHER STRENGTHENING OUR RELATIONS”

“In light of our unparalleled historical and social ties, the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, which we established in 2009, is the highest-level mechanism that institutionalizes our solidarity. We have just completed the 7th meeting of our Council, during which we have agreed on further strengthening our relations. In this sense, we have signed 24 documents in the areas of trade, water resources, agriculture, energy, culture, family and social services, science, banking, education, defense and healthcare,” President Erdoğan noted.

“OUR MILITARY DIALOGUE AND COOPERATION IN DEFENSE INDUSTRY HAVE IMPROVED OUR TRADE AND INVESTMENT RELATIONS”

Drawing attention to the business forum to be held with the participation of business people from various sectors, President Erdoğan stated that they urge investors, the engines of the economic cooperation, to more actively operate in Pakistan, and added: “We have agreed with Mr. Prime Minister on intensifying our efforts to achieve our trade volume goal of $5 billion. To that end, we have considered expanding the scope of our current goods trade deal at the first stage. We have seen that our military dialogue and cooperation in defense industry have improved our trade and investment relations with multiplier effect. We have reaffirmed our will to maintain our projects we have been carrying out with Pakistan in such areas as supply, sales and joint production.”

“WE SUPPORT PAKISTAN IN ITS FIGHT AGAINST TERROR IN ALL ITS FORMS”

Pointing to Pakistan’s great sacrifices in the fight against terror and threats to regional stability, President Erdoğan underscored Türkiye’s support for Pakistan in its fight against terror in all its forms, and went on to say: “I wish Allah’s mercy upon the soldiers, who died a martyr’s death, and our Pakistani brothers and sisters, who lost their lives,  in the terror attacks that took place in Pakistan, and a speedy recovery to the injured. We feel Pakistan’s strong support in our fight against terror in all its forms, including YPG, PKK, DAESH and FETO. The designation of FETO as a terrorist organization in Pakistan and the handing over of the schools affiliated with this organization to the Maarif Foundation are the most noteworthy outcomes of our shared determination in anti-terror fight.”

Further noting that Türkiye and the Turkish nation stand with their brothers and sisters in Kashmir, as has been the case so far, President Erdoğan said: “Our support for the solution of the Kashmir issue through dialogue, based on the United Nations’ resolutions and in line with the expectations of the people in Kashmir is unshakable. Pakistan’s support for the Turkish Cypriots’ rightful cause is extremely meaningful to us.”

“WE ENDEAVOR TO GIVE THE NECESSARY SUPPORT TO THE RIGHTFUL CAUSE OF OUR PALESTINIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS”

“I would also like to point out that we observe with appreciation Pakistan’s persevering stance on the Palestinian issue,” President Erdoğan stated, and added: “We, together with Pakistan, endeavor to give the necessary support to the rightful cause of our Palestinian brothers and sisters within the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other platforms. We believe that we must consolidate our resolute attitude especially amid such unlawful and unconscientious proposals as displacing our Gazan brothers and sisters from their homeland. We will strive patiently for the establishment of an independent, sovereign and territorially-integral State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders, with East al-Quds as its capital.”
