"Urban transformation is a matter of national security"

 

Speaking at a ceremony for key delivery, groundbreaking and mass opening of 1,930 houses and workplaces in İstanbul, President Erdoğan said: "The disaster of century, which happened on February 6, has clearly shown that an earthquake may knock on our door at any moment before we have a chance to complete our preparations. Therefore, urban transformation is not an option, but a matter of national security."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at a ceremony for key delivery, groundbreaking and mass opening of 1,930 houses and workplaces in İstanbul.

Underlining our duty to protect and preserve İstanbul, President Erdoğan said: "In order to duly fulfill this duty, we have to make İstanbul resilient to disasters, especially to earthquakes. We still feel the pain of the August 17 Marmara earthquake deep in our hearts. The disaster of century, which happened on February 6, has clearly shown that an earthquake may knock on our door at any moment before we have a chance to complete our preparations. Therefore, urban transformation is not an option, but a matter of national security."
