“Fatih drilling vessel has discovered 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves”
Addressing citizens following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan said: “Our Fatih drilling vessel has discovered 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves 3023 meters below the sea level at Çaycuma 1 block. We expect this number to be revised upward with the new exploratory wells we will open. Our new discovery will pave the way for similar discoveries in other geological fields adjacent to the region.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex.
“As you know, we have determined as one of our fundamental goals to use our domestic resources more in order to decrease our foreign dependency in energy. We have advanced step by step towards our goal with such critical projects as the huge investments we made in domestic and renewable resources, the development of our national distribution networks and international cooperation,” President Erdoğan said.
“WE WORK DAY AND NIGHT TO PUT OUR DOMESTIC NATURAL GAS AT OUR NATION’S SERVICE”
Underlining that Türkiye can now conduct exploration activities with its own vessels, human resources and equipment, President Erdoğan said: “Thankfully, we have reaped the fruits of our determined and dignified efforts with our first discovery of 320 billion cubic meters in the Black Sea. With new discoveries over time, our reserve in this field has reached 540 billion cubic meters.”
“We work day and night to put our domestic natural gas at our nation’s service,” President Erdoğan said, underscoring that the Government was working both onshore and offshore for new discoveries.
Recalling that the Fatih drilling vessel started drilling at Çaycuma 1 block on October 29, the 99th anniversary of the Republic, President Erdoğan said: “As a result of our teams’ tireless works round the clock, today we have the joy and pride of sharing another good news with our nation. Our Fatih drilling vessel has discovered 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves 3023 meters below the sea level at Çaycuma 1 block. We expect this number to be revised upward with the new exploratory wells we will open. Our new discovery will pave the way for similar discoveries in other geological fields adjacent to the region. After analyzing the collected data, we will launch new drillings as soon as possible.”
“Another good news regarding the Black Sea gas is the reevaluation of our previously-discovered reserves,” President Erdoğan said, announcing that following a detailed analysis of the 3D modelling of Türkiye’s 13 wells by a world-class company, the previously-declared reserves of 540 billion cubic meters were revised upward to 652 billion cubic meters.
“OUR TOTAL NATURAL GAS RESERVES IN THE BLACK SEA REACHED 710 BILLION CUBIC METERS”
“With our new discovery at Çaycuma 1, our total natural gas reserves in the Black sea has reached 710 billion cubic meters,” President Erdoğan said, also adding that the newly-discovered reserve will be integrated into Türkiye’s national natural gas system.
“The natural gas we have discovered in the Black Sea, including our new discovery and the latest reevaluation of the already-found reserves, has a value of 1 trillion dollars in international markets given today’s prices,” President Erdoğan said.
Noting that Türkiye will open more exploratory wells in the Black Sea, President Erdoğan said: “Our domestic gas will greatly contribute to our goal of becoming an energy hub, about which we have recently made significant progress.”
