“Global peace and stability cannot be addressed without a lasting solution to the Israel-Palestine issue”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference following the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in Washington, D.C..

President Erdoğan said: “During all my talks, I drew attention to the ongoing massacre in the occupied Palestinian territories, Gaza in particular. I stressed that global peace and stability cannot be addressed unless a lasting solution is found to the Israel-Palestine issue. Israel is persistently not implementing the injunction of the International Court of Justice, where it is being tried with genocide accusation, and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

“IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE CURRENT ISRAELI ADMINISTRATION TO CONTINUE ITS PARTNERSHIP RELATION WITH NATO”

We now see a clearer picture. We are unfortunately faced with a wild-eyed structure that recognizes no law, including the law of war, regulation, value or boundary. Maintaining military support to Israel is unacceptable amid the current situation, whereby global conscience flocks to streets in order for the attacks that target Palestinian civilians to be stopped. I drew special attention to this issue during my address at the session. It is impossible for the current Israeli administration, which violates the fundamental values of the Alliance, to continue its partnership relation with NATO.

Türkiye will not approve of the initiatives aimed at cooperating with Israel within NATO unless a comprehensive and sustainable peace is established in the Palestinian territories. It is impossible to establish a lasting peace unless the Palestinians, who have been suffering for decades on their own lands under occupation and oppression, are given the right to have their own independent and sovereign state. I call on all the conscientious members of the international community to join forces and work for the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders. In the meantime, we are extremely pleased by the increasing number of the countries that recognize Palestine despite all pressures and attempts for intimidation. Let me hereby state once again that we as Türkiye stand ready to assume any kind of initiative first for the declaration of a ceasefire and then the establishment of a lasting peace.”
