“Türkiye holds a strategic position in the global energy equation”

Addressing the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit, President Erdoğan said: “Due to its natural resources, geographical location and its proximity to hydrocarbon reserves, Türkiye holds a strategic position in the global energy equation. As a main transit route, we significantly contribute to supply and procurement security.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit at Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Center.

“TÜRKİYE’S ENERGY SECURITY CLOSELY CONCERNS THE WHOLE WORLD”

President Erdoğan said: “Due to its natural resources, geographical location and its proximity to hydrocarbon reserves, Türkiye holds a strategic position in the global energy equation. As a main transit route, we significantly contribute to supply and procurement security. Türkiye’s energy security is an issue that directly or indirectly concerns closely the whole world. We have always developed our energy policies in light of this fact, and addressed the issue with this approach. We have recently taken huge leaps to make Türkiye the safe harbor and secure hub of global energy. The target of our national energy and mining policies is evident, which is to put out resources at our nation’s disposal and to reduce foreign dependency in energy and mining.”

“We will make Türkiye a global actor in the area of exploring natural gas and oil. In this new period, our country will ensure brand-new collaborations across the world in energy and mining sectors, and will make unique contributions to global energy security,” President Erdoğan added.

“WE WILL ACHIEVE OUR ULTIMATE GOAL OF PRODUCING 100 THOUSAND BARRELS A DAY”

Stating that Türkiye’s daily oil production has surpassed 81 thousand barrels in Gabar, President Erdoğan noted: “Over 26 million barrels of oil with a total worth of approximately 2 billion dollars have been produced in Gabar so far. 504-kilometer-long new roads have been built for exploration and production activities. We obviously will not rest on our laurels, and will maintain our field development activities in the present exploration areas with over 3,000 personnel. We will achieve our ultimate goal of producing 100 thousand barrels a day in a short span of time. Our daily oil production across Türkiye, including that of in Gabar, has hit a new record as of late March, exceeding 135 thousand barrels.”

President Erdoğan stressed that as the shadow of terror recedes from the region, they will run towards their goals in energy as well as in every area of economy, and that they also continue to produce nearly 40 thousand barrels of oil in the oil fields abroad.

“ORUÇ REIS WILL INSHALLAH COMPLETE ITS WORKS WITHIN THIS MONTH”

Drawing attention to Oruç Reis vessel’s ongoing three-dimensional seismic exploration activities in three different locations in Somalia, President Erdoğan went on to say: “Oruç Reis will inshallah complete its works within this month. If we get positive outcomes from these works, we will then enter next stage, which is drilling works. Pursuant to the production sharing agreements with Somalia, works will be carried out there in three different land areas covering 16,000 square kilometers. Following the seismic data gathering activities, drilling stage will start. If these works result in discovery, the strategic cooperation between the two countries will attain a new dimension.”

“TÜRKİYE CONSOLIDATES ITS STRONG RELATIONS WITH PAKISTAN, INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA”

Underscoring that Türkiye improves its cooperation with other countries on the bases of partnership and solidarity with “win-win” strategy, President Erdoğan noted that they consolidate their strong relations with Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia in the area of energy as well, and added: “We have started the first flow of Turkmenistan’s natural gas over Iran as of March 1. Over 250 million cubic meters of natural gas has been supplied in this line thus far. We will inshallah ensured the flow of 1,3-billion cubic meters of natural gas by the end of 2025.”

Also touching upon the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, President Erdoğan said the construction of the first reactor of the plant has been recently completed, and that they will begin trial production by the end of this year and provide the first electricity from there.
