President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the ceremony held at Anıtkabir on the 81st anniversary of the passing of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.

The ceremony at Anıtkabir (Atatürk’s Mausoleum) began as high-ranking state officials walked on the Lion Road. President Erdoğan and other high-ranking officials laid wreaths at Atatürk’s mausoleum and observed a moment of silence at 09:05 a.m. at Anıtkabir

After the national anthem was sung, President Erdoğan wrote the following in the Anıtkabir Special Book at Misak-ı Millî Tower:

“We once again remember Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Chief Commander of our War of Independence, the founder of our Republic and our first President, with mercy on the 81st anniversary of his passing.

The august memories of Atatürk and his brothers-in-arms as well as of all martyrs and veterans who fought over the last thousand years to make these lands our homeland will always live on in the hearts of our people. We will continue to work with all our strength in order to live, sustain, develop and strengthen our Republic entrusted by him. May he rest in peace.”
