Condolence message from President Erdoğan on passing of Pope Francis

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message of condolence on his social media account following the passing of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics and Head of the Vatican City State.

President Erdoğan stated the following in his message:

“I have learnt with sorrow of the passing of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the Catholic world and Head of the Vatican City State.

Pope Francis was a respected statesman and a spiritual leader who valued dialogue between different faith groups and took initiative in the face of humanitarian tragedies, particularly the issue of Palestine and the genocide in Gaza.

On behalf of myself and my nation, I extend my condolences to the bereaved family, the Vatican City State, and the entire Catholic community.”
