National Security Council convenes under President Erdoğan’s chairmanship
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired the National Security Council meeting at the Presidential Complex.
It was stated in the written statement issued after the meeting that the Council was briefed on the operations successfully conducted both at home and abroad against all the terrorist organizations, PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO and DAESH in particular, which posed a threat to our national unity and solidarity and national survival.
It was noted in the statement that the attempts of the terrorist organizations in Syria to take advantage of the changes in the international arena were addressed, and that it was reiterated that a terror corridor would by no means be allowed along Turkey’s southern borders.
“The pleasure over the brotherly Azerbaijan taking back its own lands which had been under occupation for more than a quarter-century was expressed,” the statement read, noting that all aspects of the geopolitical situation that had arisen following the developments that took place were addressed, and that the importance of the implementation of the signed ceasefire agreement, ensuring Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and of the contributions Turkey would make for the establishment of a lasting peace and stability environment in the South Caucasus were underlined.
The statement read: “It was underlined that insisting on not acknowledging the existence of two states and two communities in the Island by ignoring the Turkish presence in Cyprus and these impositions of the parties, which constituted the foundation of the deadlock, would never be accepted, and that the legitimate rights of the Turkish Cypriot people would continue to be protected. It was pointed out that no concession would be made on our will to settle the issues in the Eastern Mediterranean in line with international law and on the basis of justice, and that the reason for the tensions was the parties that shied away from dialogue and cooperation.”
Noting that the activities carried out to establish stability in Libya were also discussed at the meeting, the statement read: “It was pointed out that by continuing such efforts, the Libyan people and their legitimate representatives would continue to be supported.”
The last intervention, which was unilaterally made within Operation IRINI, whose aim and legitimacy were contentious and which became an overt embargo against the legitimate Libyan government, in a way that was completely against international law and alliance relations was strongly condemned, and it was underscored that necessary steps would be taken against the abovementioned practice in every area,” the statement read.
The statement further read: “The international community was called on to take action against the Islamophobic and racist activities, which targeted the Islam religion and Muslims, of some circles in Europe by taking sides with freedom and democracy. It was underscored that the vaccines developed to curb the coronavirus pandemic, which was gradually increasing its effect, and other treatment methods should be put at the entire humanity’s disposal in a fair and accessible manner without having them sacrificed to political and commercial ambitions.”
