“Our relations with Senegal keep improving”

Speaking at a joint press conference with Senegalese Prime Minister Sonko, President Erdoğan said: “Our relations with the friendly and brotherly Senegal, which has a key role in the continent of Africa, keep improving. During the talks we have held today, we have addressed with Mr. Sonko opportunities for cooperation in the areas of particularly investment and trade as well as security, defense industry, anti-terror fight, energy, mining, transportation, agriculture and fishery.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko of Senegal held a joint press conference following their tête-à-tête and the meeting between the delegations at the Presidential Complex.

“WE HAVE FURTHER CONSOLIDATED THE CONTRACTUAL BASIS OF OUR COOPERATION”

Voicing his pleasure over hosting Senegalese Prime Minister Sonko and his delegation in Türkiye, President Erdoğan said: “Our relations with the friendly and brotherly Senegal, which has a key role in the continent of Africa, keep improving. During the talks we have held today, we have addressed with Mr. Sonko opportunities for cooperation in the areas of particularly investment and trade as well as security, defense industry, anti-terror fight, energy, mining, transportation, agriculture and fishery. We had hosted President Faye of Senegal in our country last October. During that visit we had elevated our relations to the level of strategic partnership with the establishment of the high-level strategic cooperation council. During the talks we have held today, we have addressed with Mr. Sonko opportunities for cooperation in the areas of particularly investment and trade as well as security, defense industry, anti-terror fight, energy, mining, transportation, agriculture and fishery. Also, we have further consolidated the contractual basis of our cooperation with the documents just signed.”

“WE WANT TO INCREASE OUR TRADE VOLUME TO $1 BILLION”

Drawing attention to Türkiye’s trade and investment relations with Senegal, President Erdoğan stated: “We want to increase our trade volume to 1 billion dollars at the first stage. Our nearly 100 companies operate in Senegal. The total value of the investments our companies have made and the contracting projects they have undertaken in Senegal has neared 3 billion dollars. The Turkish firms have successfully completed numerous projects that would contribute to Senegal’s development targets. As part of the National Transformation Agenda ‘Senegal 2050’, we also stand ready to share our firms’ experiences with our Senegalese friends.”

Noting that they have also discussed the joint steps that could be taken in security, defense industry and anti-terror fight, President Erdoğan added: “We are pleased about the increasing interest of our African brothers and sisters in Turkish defense products. We want to further strengthen our solidarity in this field in the upcoming period. I also thank Senegalese officials for the support they provide to our fight against FETO.”

“SENEGAL’S SOLIDARITY WITH THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE SETS AN EXAMPLE TO MANY COUNTRIES”

Further stressing that they have also addressed the ongoing developments in Gaza during today’s talks, President Erdoğan went on to say: “We have always appreciated Senegal’s brave and determined stance against the Israeli oppression. The solidarity Senegal displays with the Palestinian people sets an example to many countries. Senegal has assumed responsibility and has not turned its back on its Palestinian brothers and sisters. Senegal, which has always supported our initiatives we have launched within the United Nations, has successfully carried out the chairmanship of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People since 1975 as well. Therefore, as two brotherly Muslim countries, which have similar opinions today, we further speak out on regional and international platforms. We will continue to endeavor until the genocide in Gaza ends and until those, who doom innocent children to hunger and death, are brought to account. The perpetrators will definitely be brought to account for those innocent children, who became just skins and bones, before law and history.”
