President Erdoğan: Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant will meet 10 percent of Turkey’s electricity need

President and Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the party’s group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT).

“AKKUYU NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST INVESTMENTS IN ENERGY”

Noting that he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will virtually attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant’s third unit, President Erdoğan described the power plant as one of the biggest investments in the field of energy.

“Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, with its 4,800 MW installed power, will generate electricity by operating round the clock and year round. The electricity to be generated by this facility alone will meet 10 percent of our country’s electricity need. The primary strategic aspect of this project is that it will help Turkey diversify its energy resources,” the President stated.

“WE RANK THE 13TH IN THE WORLD IN TERMS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY INSTALLED POWER”

Drawing attention to the significant amount of energy investments made in Turkey over the past 18 years, President Erdoğan said that Turkey’s total installed energy power has surpassed 96,000 MW and that its installed power coming from indigenous energy resources has increased from 19,000 MW to 61,000 MW and its renewable energy resources from some 12,000 MW to 50,000 MW.

Turkey obtained 63 percent of the electricity it used last year from native and indigenous resources, said President Erdoğan, adding: “We rank the 13th in the world and sixth in Europe in terms of renewable energy installed power. We are also implementing one by one the projects that would make our country an energy hub.”

“TURKEY IS ONE OF THE LEADING COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD IN VACCINATION”

Underscoring Turkey’s determination in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, President Erdoğan stressed that Turkey is one of the leading countries in the world in vaccination and that it has been managing the pandemic process successfully by taking measures not only in healthcare but also in other fields including employment and education.
