President Erdoğan attends ceremony on Türkiye’s National Day at Dubai Expo 2020
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a ceremony on Türkiye’s National Day at Dubai Expo 2020 as part of his visit to the United Arab Emirates.
Delivering remarks at the event at Al Wasl Plaza, President Erdoğan congratulated the UAE on successfully hosting the large-scale event despite the pandemic
Praising the UAE’s progress under the leadership and vision of the late Sheikh Zayed, President Erdoğan said: “The Dubai Expo is undoubtedly one of the works that reflect the Emirates’ exemplary leaps forward. I also find the Expo 2020’ theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ to be extremely meaningful. We should all contemplate on a brighter future, act together to attain it, unite on the basis of common benefits.”
“WE BELIEVE IT IS AN OBLIGATION TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT”
Noting that such disasters and new challenges as the environment and health, with which the world was faced, led them to seek solutions all together, President Erdoğan said: “Achieving sustainability in all areas from agriculture to energy, from environment to economy, emerges as the primary objective because we see the environment as the work of Allah, entrusted to us. We believe it is an obligation, not a favor, to protect the environment, the shared habitat of everyone.”
Stating that the Zero Waste Project, launched in 2017 under the auspices of First Lady Emine Erdoğan, set a significant example in this regard, President Erdoğan said: “Thanks to this project, over 2 million tons of waste have been recycled back to economy, emission of 3 million tons of greenhouse gas has been prevented, and 265 million trees have been saved from being cut down.”
Underlining that Türkiye ranked 5th in Europe and 12th in the world in terms of installed renewable energy capacity, President Erdoğan said: “Let me also mention Türkiye’s first electric vehicle, TOGG here as another sign of the value we attach to the environment. It is obvious that TOGG, a model of which is on display at the pavilion, and whose serial production will begin as of the beginning of the next year, will contribute to protecting the environment. Türkiye’s participation in the expo under the sub-theme of ‘sustainability’ is a manifestation of our strong stance on this area. We do not seek development, growth and wealth no matter what. We pursue a development that is respectful to the environment.”
Underscoring that the pavilion represented Türkiye’s vast history, long-standing geographical knowledge, robust industry and dynamic trade, President Erdoğan once again congratulated the UAE, who crowned its 50th anniversary with such a successful organization.
