President Erdoğan attends Markar Esayan’s funeral
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a funeral ceremony held at Virgin Mary Armenian Church in Istanbul for Party Istanbul Deputy Markar Esayan.
Upon his arrival at the church, President Erdoğan, was welcomed by the 85th Armenian Patriarch of Turkey Sahak Maşalyan. Accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül, Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, President Erdoğan headed to Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey.
Following his meeting with Patriarch Maşalyan, President Erdoğan returned to the Virgin Mary Armenian Church for Mr. Esayan’s funeral.
Thanking President Erdoğan in his speech at the ceremony, Patriarch Maşalyan noted that such a participation was a first in the history of Turkish Armenians.
The First Couple extended their condolences to the Esayan Family.
