President Erdoğan: Eight people were slightly injured in the earthquake

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport returning from his visit to the UN General Assembly in New York.

"Eight people were slightly injured in the earthquake," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told.

President Erdoğan, with regard to the earthquake that occurred today in Istanbul, said the earthquake’s magnitude was 5.8 and that there have been 28 aftershocks following the earthquake. Stating that a disaster and emergency management center has become operational under Vice President Fuat Oktay’s chairmanship, President Erdoğan noted that Istanbul Governor’s office and all other relevant units continue their works.

VISIT TO THE U.S.

Also touching upon his visit to the U.S. for the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Erdoğan said he attended various meetings as part of his visit and that during his address to the General Assembly he conveyed Turkey’s stance concerning such issues as Palestine, Arakan, Syria, refugee crisis and migration. President Erdoğan further stressed that on the sidelines of the General Assembly, he held bilateral meetings with many heads of state and government as well as with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

TURKEY-MALAYSIA-PAKISTAN TRILATERAL SUMMIT

Stating that the Turkey-Malaysia-Pakistan Trilateral Summit was also held in New York with the participation of Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan and Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, President Erdoğan said that such sensitive issues as al-Quds and Islamophobia were discussed at the Summit. Noting that a high-level side event with the theme of “Countering Hate Speech” was hosted by Turkey and that he also participated in the Turkey Investment Conference, President Erdoğan voiced his belief that the meetings held during his visit to the U.S. have been productive.
