President Erdoğan: Family, as an institute, is the backbone of our national existence

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered remarks at a ceremony held for the public employment of citizens with disabilities and of the youth under state protection at Beştepe People’s Convention and Culture Center in Ankara.

“WE TAKE CARE TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE REMAINS NO ONE UNCOVERED BY OUR STATE’S COMPASSION”

“We take special care to make sure that there remains no one uncovered by our state’s compassion. We have raised from 2 billion liras to 55 billion liras the annual budget we have allocated for social assistance,” said President Erdoğan, adding that a total of 339 billion liras’ worth of social assistance has been provided across Turkey over the past 17 years. Stressing that the proportion of social assistance to national income has increased from 0.3 percent to 1.2 percent in the same span of time, President Erdoğan stated: “We will continue to make all our citizens benefit from the wealth that is generated as Turkey grows and prospers.”

“FAMILY, AS AN INSTITUTE, IS THE BACKBONE OF OUR NATIONAL EXISTENCE”

Describing family as the backbone of the national existence, President Erdoğan underscored that “one of the prime conditions in order for us to achieve our goal of a great and powerful Turkey is to ensure that family, as an institute, remains strong,” and continued: “It is inevitable for a society with broken families to crumble down, just in the same way as a body is crippled by a broken spine. This is the gravest threat confronting today’s western society.”

“TURKEY WILL CONTINUE TO PROTECT ITS RIGHTS AND INTERESTS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN”

Also touching upon Turkey’s agreements with Libya, President Erdoğan underlined that Turkey will continue to protect to the end its rights and interests in Iraq, Syria and the Mediterranean. Noting that Turkish troops are being deployed to Libya upon the Libyan government’s invitation, President Erdoğan said: “A scenario aimed at confining Turkey to its shores has been tried to be enacted in the Mediterranean. We, however, have prevented this scenario with the agreements we have signed, first, with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and, then, with Libya.”
