President Erdoğan: History is not only the memory of nations but also the compass of their future

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addresses citizens in the Ahlat district of Bitlis province.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan noted that history is not only the memory of nations but also the compass of their future, and said: “Societies that forget and turn their back on their past are doomed to tumble down, just like trees that have lost connection with their roots. We are a state that has a history of thousands of years embroidered with glorious victories. We are a nation of conquests that have closed ages and ushered in new ones.”  

Emphasizing the importance of being knowledgeable about history, President Erdoğan noted: “We have many shortcomings when it comes to instilling an awareness of history and consciousness of identity in our youth. Our youth aren’t familiar enough with Ahlat and Manzikert, which, whereas, are described as the gateway to Anatolia and the title deed of Turkey.”
