President Erdoğan: History will certainly judge those who have plunged Libya into blood and tears

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chairman of the Presidential Council of Government of National Accord of Libya, Fayez Al Sarraj, held a joint press conference at the Presidential Complex following their tête-à-tête.

“TURKEY AND LIBYA HAVE STAYED IN SOLIDARITY WITH EACH OTHER DURING THE PANDEMIC AS WELL”

Drawing attention to what he called “strong relations between Turkey and Libya,” President Erdoğan, stating that the two countries have continued to stay in solidarity with each other during the coronavirus pandemic as well, said: “Despite the putschist Haftar’s treacherous attacks targeting civilians, hospitals and the healthcare infrastructure, the Government of National Accord has taken necessary measures against the pandemic. With various medical equipment and protective materials we sent in April and May, we have not left Libya alone in these difficult days. We will continue to do what our brotherhood requires from now on as well. Our aim is to help friendly and brotherly Libyan people come together once again around same ideals and political unity.”

“HISTORY WILL CERTAINLY JUDGE THOSE WHO HAVE PLUNGED LIBYA INTO BLOOD AND TEARS”

Underscoring that Turkey’s priority is that stability is immediately restored in Libya, President Erdoğan reiterated that a solution can only be achieved through a political process to be carried out under the auspices of the United Nations and led by Libyans. Pointing to the positive stance the Government of National Accord has taken despite what he called “the war crimes and the crimes against the humanity the putschist Haftar and his gangs have committed,” President Erdoğan stressed: “The biggest obstacle against peace is this person and those who provide military, financial and political support to him. History will certainly judge those who have plunged Libya into blood and tears by backing the putschist Haftar.”

“IT IS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ENTIRE REGION THAT STABILITY IS RESTORED IN LIBYA”

Further noting that they agreed during today’s talks on developing new areas of cooperation on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on Delimitation of the Maritime Jurisdiction Areas between Turkey and Libya, President Erdoğan said: “It is for the benefit of the entire region, Libya’s neighbors and Europe in particular, that stability is restored in Libya. We will by no means abandon our Libyan brothers and sisters to the mercy of putschists and mercenaries. Our support for Libya’s legitimate government and institutions will increasingly continue.”
