President Erdoğan: I hope a ceasefire agreement will be signed in Libya

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a joint press conference with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte of Italy at the Presidential Complex following their one-on-one and the meeting between the delegations.

“WE DISCUSSED MAINLY THE DEVELOPMENTS IN LIBYA DURING THE TALKS”

Stating that they discussed mainly the developments in Libya and reviewed the situation in Syria and the bilateral relations during the talks, President Erdoğan noted: “We have supported the initiatives of Mr. Salamé, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN, and the Berlin process in a constructive manner, and will continue to do so.” Pointing to the ceasefire that came into effect last night in Libya, President Erdoğan stressed: “I particularly hope a ceasefire agreement will be signed in Libya as soon as possible.”

Saying that he also shared information with Prime Minister Conte regarding Turkey’s efforts aimed at making tranquility prevail in Syria and at eliminating the terrorist organization, President Erdoğan, drawing attention to the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Idlib, went on to say that Turkey expects Italy to support its endeavors to preserve Idlib’s status as being the region for deescalating tensions.

Answering reporters’ questions following the conference, President Erdoğan, in response to a question regarding the meeting to be held in Berlin on Sunday, said that as leaders, they will meet in Berlin to further consolidate the ceasefire process, and voiced his hope for the latest developments in Libya to come to an end.
