President Erdoğan inaugurates Exhibition for Centenary of Independence March
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the opening gala of the Exhibition for Centenary of Independence March at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Praising Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the poet of the Independence March, as one of the greatest men of the last century, President Erdoğan said: “Mehmet Akif, who is one of the symbols of our fight for independence and our traditional wisdom, has earned a special place in our glorious nation’s heart with his timeless works, perseverance, profound wisdom and exemplary morals.”
“THE INDEPENDENCE MARCH IS A NATIONAL ACCORD WHICH UNITES 84 MILLION PEOPLE”
“Mehmet Akif Ersoy left behind a treasure of works and ideas. He endowed our nation with an exceptional Independence March. And for 100 years, this march has been guiding various nations across the world on the path towards salvation. Our Independence March is a torch of liberty which kindles the same feeling, the same enthusiasm in the hearts of everyone who reads and understands it. We see our Independence March not only as a symbol of independence, but also as a national accord which unites 84 million people. We may have different political ideas, views, sects or disposition in this country but our Independence March is a common ground for us all.”
