President Erdoğan performs Friday prayer at Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan performed Friday prayer at the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque in Istanbul.

President Erdoğan addressed reporters following the prayer.

VISIT TO TRNC

Regarding his upcoming visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on July 19, President Erdoğan said he would address the Northern Cypriot parliament on the first day of his visit. “I want to give Northern Cyprus the good news over there at the parliament. It wouldn’t be right for me to reveal the good news here now. We have a nice step to take, the preliminary works of which we have already completed. On Tuesday, we will join ceremonies in Northern Cyprus as we do every year. After participating in the ceremonies over there with a large delegation, we will return to Turkey on Tuesday evening. It is my wish that through this year’s ceremonies, we will be conveying, in the most beautiful manner possible, our messages both to the Island and the world for the establishment of global peace.”

President Erdoğan added that the bilateral talks he would hold with his Turkish Cypriot counterpart as well as the talks to be held between the delegations would make the visit more fruitful.

FLOOD IN RIZE

In answer to a question about the flood in Rize and as to whether he had had any talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel after the flood in Germany, President Erdoğan said that there had been no request for aid from Germany, and added: “However, we have been informed that the catastrophe in Germany was gigantic. And in the flood in Rize, including my hometown, six people have passed away besides the two people who have been missing. Three ministers of ours are over there at the moment. I am constantly in contact with Mr. Soylu, Mr. Kurum and Mr. Karaismailoğlu as well as with Governor Mr. Çeber.”
