President Erdoğan performs Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan performed Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul.

Following the prayer, President Erdoğan delivered remarks to reporters.

In response to a question as regards the statements the US and the EU made about Boğaziçi University, President Erdoğan said: “What do the US and the EU say? They say ‘we condemn what is going on at Boğaziçi University.’ I now ask the US; do you not feel ashamed at all for democracy considering the incidents that occurred in the run up to the elections in the US? How everyone threatened one another during those incidents and how you reached the peak in racism! How the police in your country got your black citizens on the ground and killed them! How will you explain these to the world? And there is also Macron speaking from the EU. Macron, you should first handle the issue of the Yellow Vests. Your citizens and the Yellow Vests are on the streets at the moment. You should first deal with this issue.”

Concerning French President Macron’s remarks that Turkey should withdraw its troops from Libya, President Erdoğan underlined that Turkey’s goal is to establish peace wherever it goes, and said: “Turkey has a security cooperation with Libya. We are in Libya upon its invitation. The aim of our presence there is to maintain this cooperation and to ensure that the people of Libya achieve peace as soon as possible.”
