President Erdoğan performs Friday prayer in Istanbul
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered reporters’ questions after performing the Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul’s Üsküdar district.
In his response to a question as to whether there is a work underway to hold the elections on May 14, President Erdoğan noted that the President announces the election date 60 days in advance and afterwards the Supreme Election Council oversees the relevant timeframe.
Answering a question about an analysis published in the Economist about the upcoming elections in Türkiye, President Erdoğan said: “Is it up to an English magazine to decide Türkiye’s fate? No, it is my nation that decides it. My nation decides what will happen in Türkiye. An English magazine cannot decide Türkiye’s fate.”
Also touching upon Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ remarks about the Aegean and Libya during the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Erdoğan highlighted that Greece does not abide by the Lausanne’s terms concerning the islands in the Aegean. Noting that Greece is acting in violation of both the Lausanne and other agreements by arming these islands, President Erdoğan added that Türkiye is taking necessary steps and making necessary statements regarding the issue at international meetings.
