President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with President Donald Trump of the U.S.
The call addressed bilateral relations between Türkiye and the U.S., as well as regional and global matters.
President Erdoğan expressed his belief that Türkiye and the U.S., as two allies, will advance their cooperation in the new era with solidarity, a results-oriented approach, and sincerity.
Stating that regional and global developments necessitate increasing consultations between Türkiye and the United States on all matters, President Erdoğan said that Türkiye supports President Trump's decisive and direct initiatives to end the war between Russia and Ukraine and emphasized that Türkiye has been striving for a just and lasting peace since the beginning of the war and will continue to do so.
Noting the importance of jointly contributing to the lifting of sanctions on Syria to restore stability, make the new administration functional, and support normalization, President Erdoğan also emphasized that this would enable Syrians to return to their homeland.
Further emphasizing that Türkiye expects the United States to take steps in the fight against terrorism with an approach that considers Türkiye's interests in the new era, President Erdoğan added that lifting CAATSA sanctions, finalizing the F-16 procurement process, and ensuring Türkiye's reentry into the F-35 program are necessary to enhance bilateral cooperation in the defense industry.
