President Erdoğan’s congratulatory letter to Pope Leo XIV

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan conveyed a congratulatory letter to Pope Leo XIV, the spiritual leader of Catholic Christians and Head of Vatican City State, on the occasion of his election to the papacy.
President Erdoğan stated in his letter, "On the occasion of your election to the Papacy, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on behalf of my nation and myself."
President Erdoğan noted that the late Pope Francis, a distinguished statesman, earned global admiration through his significant endeavours to promote peace and tolerance amid escalating regional and international conflicts and added:
"I am confident that we will maintain the sincere and constructive dialogue we have established with Pope Francis with you as well. I firmly believe that further enhancing relations between Türkiye and the Vatican City will make a substantial contribution to fostering tolerance on the global stage and ending humanitarian tragedies, particularly in Gaza."
In his letter, President Erdoğan also expressed his hope for collaboration in ending humanitarian tragedies, particularly in Gaza.
