President Erdoğan’s Message on May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day
Following is the message President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued on the occasion of May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day:

Dear Turkish youth, the guarantee of our freedom, independence, sovereignty and Republic…
May 19 is the day when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived in Samsun and effectively initiated our national struggle 100 years ago.
May 19 is the day when the national will, the spirit of unity and solidarity and an unwavering faith revived in order to eradicate the occupying forces from our land.
May 19 is the day when our nation stood back up.
May 19 is the first step taken towards freedom and independence.
Dear youth,
Today, as was the case yesterday, it is you that will protect this country against the circles of treason and evil that target our freedom and independence.
That is so because Mustafa Kemal Atatürk entrusted this country and its future to you.
We live in an age when all is changing rapidly. Amid this rapid change, this country needs your energy and enthusiasm, your desires and dreams in science, industry, technology and arts.
We all need you.
It is your ideas, your discoveries, your opinions, your tenacity and your resolve that will usher in new horizons for our country.
Never forget the weight and responsibility of this burden on your shoulders!
Dear youth…
We believe in you.
Today, as was the case yesterday, we stand ready to listen to you in order to make your demands, expectations and dreams come true and in order to build a future which will make you proud.
Let’s join hands and further elevate our country.
In the centenary of our national struggle, let’s run to the future proudly as a free, independent and strong country through the skies of which the adhan resonates and in the horizons of which our red flag waves.
I once again remember Atatürk and his brothers in arms with respect and congratulate our august nation, you the youth in particular, on the occasion of May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
