President Erdoğan: Sacrificing a prosperous future to internal politics will be a waste of time
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan held a joint press conference following their bilateral meeting in Zengilan’s Aghaly village which was liberated from occupation.
“ACTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NEW SITUATION IN THE REGION”
Voicing his pleasure over being in Zengilan, President Erdoğan noted that he discussed all aspects of the bilateral relations and regional developments with his Azerbaijani counterpart, and said: “Azerbaijan put an end with a glorious victory to the occupation that had blocked the realization of the region’s true capacity, and implemented by itself the UNSC resolution which had not been put into effect for years. The atmosphere today is more convenient than ever to ensure lasting peace and make progress towards the long-awaited normalization. To this end, actions should be taken in accordance with the new situation in the region.”
“SACRIFICING A PROSPEROUS FUTURE TO INTERNAL POLITICS WILL BE A WASTE OF TIME”
“We favor lasting peace and comprehensive normalization in the region,” President Erdoğan stressed, and drawing attention to the highway and railway lines that would pass through the region, added: “All of the neighbors of Azerbaijan, including Iran, Georgia and Armenia, will benefit from this development. In short, these projects are inclusive, not exclusionary. Naturally, the borders must be identified and mutually recognized during this period. It is this very approach that constitutes the foundation of good neighborly relations. Armenia should display a sincere will to settle the issues with Azerbaijan. If they display a sincere will with Azerbaijan, there will be no obstacles left to the normalization of Turkey’s relations with Armenia. Sacrificing a prosperous future, which will be built all together for the entire region, to cheap calculation and internal politics will be a waste of time.”
