President Erdoğan, Sudanese Sovereignty Council officials talk over phone
President Erdoğan held separate phone calls with General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Deputy Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan and Commander of the Rapid Support Forces.
The calls addressed the developments in Sudan. President Erdoğan stated that they, in a spirit of brotherhood, follow with concern the incidents in Sudan. Noting that they as Türkiye have since the very beginning sincerely supported the transition process in Sudan, President Erdoğan said that the recent incidents, however, are ruining the efforts exerted since 2018 and putting at risk the gains of the transition process. Calling on the parties to end conflicts, stop shedding fraternal blood and return to dialogue, President Erdoğan urged them to take necessary steps that would ensure the society’s unity in Sudan, not to close the door to talks, and to resolve the problems with common sense.
Underscoring that they as Türkiye will continue to stand with the brotherly Sudanese state and nation during this period as well, President Erdoğan stressed that they stand ready to provide any kind of support in their hands, including hosting potential mediation initiatives. Further noting that utmost attention should be paid to protect the safety of the lives and properties of the Turkish citizens and institutions in Sudan, President Erdoğan added that proper precautions should be taken for the safe utilization of Khartoum Airport in order to ensure the transfer of the Turkish citizens to Türkiye and the opening of an emergency humanitarian aid corridor.
