President Erdoğan: The international community has not duly stood against putschist haftar’s heedless attacks

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference at Atatürk Airport in Istanbul before departing for Berlin where he will attend a summit on Libya.

Underscoring that such terrorist organizations as DAESH and Al-Qaeda have regained ground in Libya, President Erdoğan said that the attacks have reached a level which threatens the stability in not only Libya but also in the entire Mediterranean, especially in the neighboring countries of Libya, and added: “Unfortunately, the international community has not thus far duly stood against putschist Haftar’s heedless attacks. Putschist Haftar and his supporters’ acts, which openly violate the United Nations Security Council Resolutions, have long been ignored. It is of course noteworthy that this summit is ultimately being held today 9 months after the start of the attacks on Tripoli and following the 4-month-long efforts exerted within the Berlin process.”

“WE HAVE DONE OUR BEST FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE BERLIN PROCESS”

Stressing that Turkey has since the very first day displayed a coherent and principled stance in the face of the developments in Libya, President Erdoğan reiterated that a lasting solution can only be reached through political dialogue, and continued: “We have done our best in order for the Berlin process to succeed. In addition, we have increased our dialogue, consultation and coordination with the Government of National Accord. We have strengthened our cooperation with the legitimate Libyan government through the two memorandums of understanding we signed in late 2019. Turkey has become the key to peace in Libya with its efforts on the ground and in diplomacy.”

“MASSACRES CONTINUE IN IDLIB DESPITE THE CEASEFIRE”

Also touching upon the developments in Idlib, President Erdoğan, underscoring that the massacres by the Syrian regime against civilians continue in Idlib despite the ceasefire, said: “Movements of migration have restarted towards our country’s borders. It is high time to say ‘no’ to the regime’s atrocity. We will raise the Idlib issue as well during the talks in Berlin. I pray to my Lord that the talks in Berlin will lead to auspicious developments for Libya, Syria and our region.”

President Erdoğan left Turkey for Germany following the press conference.

Accompanying President Erdoğan on his visit to Germany are Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar and Turkey’s Special Envoy to Libya and Party’s Ankara Deputy Emrullah İşler.
