President Erdoğan: The security of our electronic systems and the data stored in these systems are just as important as the security of our borders

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the inauguration of the new headquarters of Turkey’s Computer Emergency Response Team (Turkish National CERT).

Underlining the importance of the new headquarters in terms of rendering Turkey much more prepared against any kind of cyberattacks, President Erdoğan described information and communication industry as the fastest-growing sector in the world.

“THE SECURITY OF OUR ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE SECURITY OF OUR BORDERS”

Drawing a parallel between the security aspect of information technologies and the physical defense of nations, President Erdoğan noted that an initiative of national technology was launched with the goal of making Turkey a country that generates and sells technology.

Pointing out that Turkey, targeted by some 136 thousand cyberattacks lately, was among the top countries facing such attacks globally, President Erdoğan stated: “The security of our electronic systems and the data stored in these systems are just as important as the security of our borders. We are stepping into a period in which technological devices, particularly AI-aided unmanned aerial vehicles and robotic systems, will be playing an increasingly bigger role in our lives. We should focus more seriously on the security aspect of this issue.”

Drawing attention to the important place Turkey now has in today’s digitalized world, President Erdoğan said: “In the period ahead, we will make Turkey one of the leading countries in information and communication technologies, just like in any other area. We will work much harder in order for Turkey to become a country that designs, develops, manufactures and exports high-tech products.”
