President Erdoğan: Tokyo 2020 was imprinted on memories due to our athletes’ successes
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with the national athletes, who won a medal at Tokyo 2020, during dinner at the Presidential Complex.
“TURKEY BROKE A GREAT RECORD BY WINNING A TOTAL OF 13 MEDALS”
Speaking at the dinner, President Erdoğan expressed his pleasure over meeting with the athletes and trainers, who represented Turkey with pride in Tokyo 2020, and with their families, and said: “Tokyo 2020 was imprinted on memories not just because it was the first Olympic Games held without spectators, but due to the successes achieved by our athletes as well. Turkey, by winning a total of 13 medals, two of which are gold, two silvers and nine bronzes, broke a great record in this huge sports organization where nearly 11 thousand athletes from almost every country in the world participated in.”

Stating that the national athletes, who had participated in the Olympic Games, had filled the hearts of the Turkish people with excitement during a difficult period when fights were being waged against wildfires and floods, President Erdoğan said: “I thank each and every one of you on behalf of both myself and my nation for uniting the 84 million with your successes and making us feel unforgettably proud. Each one of our 108 athletes, who participated in the Olympic Games to represent our country, deserves appreciation. Above all, qualifying for the national team after completing a great number of stages is a great honor which is a dream of almost every athlete. And to us, each of our athletes, who represented Turkey in Tokyo 2020, is a hero that has had this honor.”
