President Erdoğan: Turkey ranks 1st in Europe in terms of agricultural production

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed farmers during a meeting held at Beştepe People’s Convention and Culture Center in Ankara.

Stating that they are well aware of the importance agriculture and husbandry bear for Turkey, President Erdoğan noted that the TL126.8 billion in agricultural subsidy provided thus far to Turkish farmers is the most tangible indicator of this awareness. Recalling that Turkey’s national agricultural income was even less than TL37 billion in 2002, President Erdoğan went on to say: “Back then, Turkey’s export of agricultural products stood at around $3.7 billion. And the annual agricultural subsidy provided to our farmers barely reached TL1.8 billion. We have taken Turkey from those levels to its current place at which it generates TL190 billion in agricultural national income, exports $17.7 billion worth of agricultural products and supplies nearly TL16.1 billion in agricultural subsidy to its farmers. So much so that, Turkey now ranks 1st in Europe in terms of agricultural production.”

Following the meeting, President Erdoğan went to the province of Malatya to attend a campaign rally of the Justice and Development (AK) Party in the run-up to the local elections scheduled for March 31, 2019, and addressed citizens therein.
