President Erdoğan: We are determined to further improve our cooperation with African countries
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Idriss Déby Itno of Chad held a joint press conference at the Presidential Complex following their tête-à-tête and the meeting between the delegations.
Drawing attention to the two countries’ bilateral trade volume, which stands at some 60 million dollars, President Erdoğan pointed out that this figure is not sufficient for Turkey and Chad, whose total population is over 97 million, and noted: “We have affirmed our determination to increase our bilateral trade volume to 100 million dollars.”
Thanking President Idriss Déby of Chad for the support he has provided to Turkish entrepreneurs, President Erdoğan noted that Turkey takes pride in the projects that Turkish companies have realized in Chad in various areas, including construction and defense industry.

Stating that during the meetings they discussed the fight against terror, President Erdoğan said that they reaffirmed the maintenance of the two countries’ cooperation on this issue. Pointing out that Chad has displayed an exemplary friendship on this issue by supporting Turkey’s fight against the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), President Erdoğan recalled that the schools affiliated with the FETO terrorist organization in Chad were transferred to the Maarif Foundation last year.
Underlining that Turkey attaches great importance to relations with Africa on the basis of justice and equity, President Erdoğan said: “We never approve of arrogant and aggressive attitudes towards African countries. We are determined to further improve our cooperation with Chad and other African countries.”

President Idriss Déby of Chad, for his part, said they can increase the two countries’ bilateral trade volume to a level that befits Turkey and Chad, and that the cooperation between the two countries has been strengthened with the agreements signed today in the areas of defense, agriculture and industry.
