President Erdoğan: We are ushering in a bright future for our country

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed via videoconference the opening ceremony of multiple energy facilities in Manisa.

Stressing the importance of the four energy facilities newly inaugurated in Manisa in terms of Turkey’s energy supply security, President Erdoğan said: “A total of 68 million citizens of ours have access to natural gas. We didn’t pause our natural gas investments in 2020 when public investments across the world came to a standstill. We started to deliver natural gas to 39 more districts and towns despite the pandemic. We will further increase our natural gas investments in 2021.”

“WE ARE WORKING TO ESTABLISH AN ENERGY INDUSTRY THAT IS BASED ON DOMESTIC RESOURCES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE”

“We are ushering in a bright future for our country in spite of those who hope Turkey stumbles and descends into chaos and crisis,” the President stated. “Whatever we do, we do it for Turkey, for the peace, security and prosperity of our 83 million citizens. We have never let complacency overtake us during the ongoing pandemic period when investments across the world has come to a standstill. We have sped up our projects in every area from healthcare and transportation to agriculture, industry, energy and environment.”

Noting that Turkey started to focus on energy investments particularly following the discovery of 405 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea, President Erdoğan said: “We are working to establish an energy industry that is based on domestic resources as much as possible in line with the principle of ‘Independent Energy, Powerful Turkey’.”

“WE HAVE TRIPLED TURKEY’S INSTALLED ELECTRICITY CAPACITY IN 18 YEARS”

Turkey tripled its installed electricity capacity, which Ankara sees as indispensable for national development, to 96 thousand megawatts in 18 years, the President added.

Highlighting the importance Turkey attaches to the effective use of domestic and renewable energy resources, President Erdoğan said: “Domestic resources make up 63.5 percent of our existing installed power. 51.7 percent of those domestic resources comes from renewable resources, or clean energy. Our installed geothermal power capacity has increased from just 18 megawatts in 2002 to 1,613 megawatts today. With this number, Turkey has risen to first place in Europe and fourth place globally in geothermal capacity.”
