President Erdoğan: We call on everyone who has an influence on the region to acknowledge the Azerbaijani people’s victory

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan spoke at a joint press conference in Shusha.

“WE PROVIDE EVERY KIND OF SUPPORT FOR OUR AZERBAIJANI BROTHERS’ RECONSTRUCTION EFFORTS”

Stressing that Turkey will provide every kind of support to Azerbaijan’s efforts for reconstruction as it did during Baku’s fight for liberation, President Erdoğan said: “While making up for the destructions, we, together, will also be taking necessary measures to prevent the reoccurrence of a similar catastrophe in Karabakh and Azerbaijani lands.

Calling on everyone who has an influence on the region to see the facts, acknowledge the Azerbaijani people’s victory and look to the future, President Erdoğan stated: “New opportunities of cooperation have emerged in the region for all parties in the wake of the ceasefire agreement. We are a close witness of our Azerbaijani brothers and sisters’ broad-minded stance on this issue. As Turkey, we also want to transform our relations of geographical neighbors into a deeper cooperation.”

Noting that Armenia should hold the hand extended in good faith for cooperation and make good use of the opportunity to shape the future together, President Erdoğan stated: “It is our biggest wish that this historic opportunity will not be missed because of unrealistic aspirations, rhetoric  and actions. Anyone who wants to contribute to the new status in the region must abandon the politics of hatred and provocation and must rather encourage cooperation. We are saying at every opportunity that if such an atmosphere emerges, we will do our part as well for normalization with Armenia. We are of the belief that this promising process will advance in much more reliable manner if Azerbaijan and Armenia crown their ceasefire agreement with a comprehensive and visionary peace agreement.”

“WE ARE MOVING FORWARD TOWARDS OUR GOAL OF ACHIEVING $15 BILLION IN TRADE VOLUME BY 2023”

Noting that the Turkey-Azerbaijan relations were thoroughly addressed during his bilateral meeting with President Aliyev, President Erdoğan stated: “We will hold the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting in Turkey in the months ahead. Starting from April 1, 2021, we have initiated travel with national IDs between the two countries. This step will bring us closer to one another, facilitating mutual visits. We have recently taken important steps in mutual trade. The Preferential Trade Agreement took effect on March 1, 2021. We are moving forward step by step towards our goal of achieving $15 billion in trade volume by 2023.”

“Today, we have taken another historic step that will further strengthen our relations built on the basis of ‘one nation, two states’. This is an important step which we will further consolidate in the period ahead. As my treasured brothers has stated, we have determined the roadmap of our ties in the new period with the Shusha Declaration, which we have just signed,” President Erdoğan said, adding that Turkey is planning to open a consulate general in Shusha as soon as possible so as to manage its activities in the region in a faster and more effective manner.
