President Erdoğan: We exchanged views on illegal migration

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference at Esenboğa Airport in Ankara following his Latin America tour covering Argentina, Paraguay and Venezuela.

“WE EXCHANGED VIEWS ON ILLEGAL MIGRATION”

Noting that they addressed during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Argentina the challenges faced by global trade and economy, increasing the infrastructure investments, establishing modern taxation systems, and the new risks and fragilities emerging in the international financial system, President Erdoğan stressed that they, during the summit, reiterated the importance they attach to the fight against terror and that they underlined the need for waging this fight against all forms of terror without making any distinction. President Erdoğan, with regard to the issues raised during the summit, said: “We also exchanged views on illegal migration, one of the biggest humanitarian challenges of the present day. As a country which stands out as the host of the biggest migration route and the largest number of migrants, we needed to address these issues. We touched upon the works that we carry out on this issue and that are appreciated by the entire world. Emphasizing the necessity to adopt a holistic approach while carrying out works in this field, we also drew attention to international responsibility and burden sharing. Climate and energy, digital economy, agriculture, education, employment, and gender equality were also among the issues we discussed during the summit.”

FIRST PRESIDENTIAL VISIT FROM TURKEY TO PARAGUAY AND VENEZUELA

Noting that he, on the margins of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, had bilateral meetings with the leaders of Russia, the UK, the US, Chile, Argentina, the Netherlands and Japan, President Erdoğan recalled that he also came together with the Muslims leaders in Argentina on the occasion of the visit, and added: “After participating in the G20 Summit, I, together with a large delegation composed of deputies, bureaucrats and businesspeople, proceeded  to Paraguay and, from there, to Venezuela on December 2nd and 3rd. We have thus paid the first Presidential visit from Turkey to these two countries.

Further stressing that the positive impacts on Turkey’s relations with Paraguay and Venezuela of the talks held during the visits will be more visible in the upcoming period, President Erdoğan noted: “We will continue to enhance our bilateral and multilateral relations with the Latin American and Caribbean countries, which hold an important place in our opening policy.”
