President Erdoğan: We expect all our allies to concretely support this struggle Turkey is waging by itself with great self-sacrifices
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a joint press conference in Brussels following their meeting.
“NO EUROPEAN COUNTRY CAN AFFORD TO REMAIN INDIFFERENT TO THE HUMANITARIAN TRAGEDY IN SYRIA”
Stating that they addressed the situation in Syria during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, President Erdoğan said that Turkey’s border with Syria is NATO’s southeast borders as well, and noted: “No European country can afford to remain indifferent to the conflicts and the humanitarian tragedy in Syria. We must increase our efforts more than ever for the Syrian issue.”
Underscoring that Turkey is the only country that fights DAESH and hosts 3.6 million Syrian refugees, President Erdoğan stressed: “We expect all our allies to concretely support this struggle Turkey is waging by itself with great self-sacrifices. NATO is going through a period of critical importance during which it should display alliance solidarity in a clear manner.”
“OUR ALLIES SHOULD SHOW THEIR SOLIDARITY WITH OUR COUNTRY WITHOUT ANY DISCRIMINATION”
Noting that Turkey and NATO contribute to each other’s strength, President Erdoğan went on to say: “What is essential here is that NATO contributes to our country’s defense and its fight against terror. Besides, our allies should show their solidarity with our country without any discrimination and any political condition. In this sense, it is of paramount importance that the support we request be given without further delay. I believe that the necessary steps will be taken in the period ahead and thank Mr. Secretary General.”
