President Erdoğan: We have been working to diversify our energy projects
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended via videoconference the groundbreaking ceremony of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant’s third unit.
Recalling that he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin broke the ground for Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant three years ago, President Erdoğan stated that the construction works for the third reactor has started today, with the fourth reactor planned to be built next year.
Describing Turkey’s decision to add nuclear power to its national energy infrastructure as a strategic step towards energy supply security, President Erdoğan stated that Turkey, through this move, aims to secure its future in energy.
“AS OUR ECONOMY GROWS, OUR NEED FOR RELIABLE, UNINTERRUPTED AND AFFORDABLE ENERGY GROWS AS WELL”
“As our economy grows, our need for reliable, uninterrupted and affordable energy grows as well. We have been working to diversify our energy projects with the understanding that investing in energy means investing in the future. In this regard, we attach great importance to energy efficiency and renewable energy,” President Erdoğan underlined.
Pointing out that nuclear energy holds a special place in Turkey’s energy policies, President Erdoğan stated that Turkey aims to include in its energy basket the nuclear energy, which has zero emission and causes no harm to the environment.
The first reactor of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant will be operational in 2023, the President noted, further stressing that no efforts are being spared in order for the other three reactors of this plant to be operational one by one.
“WE HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE RESULTS OF THE TURKISH-RUSSIA DIALOGUE ON THE GROUND”
Describing Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant as one of the symbols of Turkey-Russia cooperation, President Erdoğan said: “We share a strong will with Mr. Putin to deepen our cooperation through new projects. The close dialogue between me and my treasured friend plays a key role not only in the bilateral relations but also in the protection of regional peace and stability. We have had the opportunity to see the results of the Turkish-Russia dialogue on the ground in many issues from Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh to Syria and others. We are determined to expand this cooperation in the period ahead.”
