President Erdoğan: We have defeated every attempt against our democracy

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at a commemoration with the theme of “Yassıada Court on Trial” on the 62nd anniversary of May 27 Coup at Adnan Menderes Congress Center on Democracy and Freedoms Island.

“THE DARK SHADOW OF YASSIADA LINGERED OVER POLITICS FOR DECADES”

Remembering Adnan Menderes, Hasan Polatkan and Fatin Rüştü Zorlu with grace and gratitude, President Erdoğan said: “Politicians, who served our country, were threatened with the tragic end of Menderes and his friends, with Yassıada sometimes by imperialist powers, sometimes by putschists, and sometimes via the media which was the mouthpiece of tutelage. Mr. Menderes’ heartbreaking photograph at the gallows was constantly reminded tune up politicians. The dark shadow of Yassıada lingered over civilian politics for decades. When we set out with the aim of a great and powerful Türkiye, they also put that photograph in front of us.”

“On this honorable path, upon which we have embarked with our shrouds on, we have never succumbed to threats or blackmail. We along with our nation have defeated every attempt targeting our democracy,” President Erdoğan said.
