President Erdoğan: We have displayed a principled and conscientious stance in the face of the crises in our region
President and Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the party’s group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT).
“WE HAVE BECOME ONE OF THE FASTEST RECOVERING ECONOMIES DURING THE PANDEMIC”
Noting that the Türkiye didn’t neglect the problems affecting the people’s works, income, sustenance and every sphere of life while following global and regional developments, President Erdoğan said: “We are undoubtedly faced with a high cost of life due to the rise in foreign exchange as well as the reflections on our country of exorbitant price hikes in global commodities, particularly energy and food. However, the truth is that inflation is not unique to our country but rather developed countries are grappling with similar problems as well. We don’t say we seek consolation in the problem being experienced by others as well but that any assessment ignoring this reality will be erroneous and deficient. What is more, Türkiye has once again proven its resilience against shocks with its manufacturing and employment strength in this period.”
President Erdoğan continued as follows: “We have managed to be one of the fastest recovering economies during the pandemic thanks to our sound economic foundations and the effective policies we have implemented. Indeed, Türkiye, whose economy has grown by 1.8 percent in 2020 while the global economy has shrank by 3.1 percent, has been one of the two countries to record positive growth along with China.”
Underscoring that the region that encompassed Türkiye as well had been going through painful and challenging days over the last 11 years, President Erdoğan said: “We as Türkiye have never lost our cool in the face of the crises in our region, displaying a principled and conscientious stance since the very first day. We have never discriminated against any of the people who have fled the war and oppression in their countries and come to our door, because of their language, religion, or skin color. Just as our ancestors had done for centuries, we have embraced the oppressed, who have taken shelter in our country, regardless of their religion.”
“We have rushed to the aid of our brothers and friends in places that are dear to our hearts,” President Erdoğan said, and added: “During an era in which humanitarian features are tested, Türkiye, with its stance, generosity, sincerity and compassion, has been the source of pride of the whole humanity. While those who speak of human rights and freedoms whenever they open their mouths fail, our people has once again passed successfully this test of humanity. I take this opportunity to thank all my citizens, each one of the 85 million, who have welcomed all the oppressed and the wronged, believing in the blessing of sharing and power of solidarity.”
