President Erdoğan: We have facilitated our disabled citizens’ access to public services
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech during a ceremony held for the appointment of teachers with disabilities and the launch of the Vision without Disabilities 2030 on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Voicing his happiness to be coming together with guests who have disabilities on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, President Erdoğan said: “I convey my greetings and respects to all of our disabled brothers and sisters in Türkiye and across the world through your agency. I wholeheartedly congratulate all persons with disabilities, particularly my brothers and sisters present here now, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.”
“TÜRKİYE BECAME ONE OF THE FIRST SIGNATORIES OF CRPD IN 2007”
Wishing for this meaningful day, embraced by the entire world under the leadership of the United Nations, to lead to auspicious developments for persons with disabilities, President Erdoğan said: “I congratulate you my brothers and sisters who are here with us now representing millions of disabled persons in our country and whose perseverance and determination give us inspiration. Yesterday at the Presidential Complex, we hosted our athletes who made us proud with the 15 medals they won in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Games. We as the nation all had special feelings in the face of the successes our Paralympic athletes achieved despite all the hardships. We of course attach importance to our achievements in all branches of sports; yet, the achievements of our athletes with disabilities have a special place in our view. I hereby congratulate them once again and wish them further success.”
Stressing that Türkiye now has the most inclusive social security system in the world, President Erdoğan stated that the problems faced by persons with disabilities had been resolved with the law on disabled persons dated 2005. “We were one of the first countries to have signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in 2007. With the constitutional amendment in 2010, we have introduced the constitutional guarantee of affirmative action for persons with disabilities. We have facilitated our disabled brothers’ and sisters’ access to every kind of public services, especially education and healthcare.”
