President Erdoğan: We should raise awareness among the youth about the hazards of tobacco in order to look to the future with confidence
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed via videoconference the youth and athletes on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day.
Voicing his appreciation for the pioneering role the youth assume in combatting tobacco, President Erdoğan stated that these efforts by the youth are now of greater importance given the ongoing fight against the pandemic.
Underlining the fact that those most affected by the COVID-19 are smokers, and that tobacco is the trigger and cause of 50 different diseases according to scientific researches, President Erdoğan noted that a wide range of measures have been taken in Turkey in line with the recommendations of the Science Board in order to curb the spread of the virus and protect the health of the citizens.
“We should raise awareness among the youth about the hazards of tobacco, alcohol and drugs in order to look to the future with confidence,” the President further stressed, adding that the responsibility for this struggle does not only rest with the state or such organizations as Green Crescent but is also shared with anyone, including academics, journalists, teachers, family members and neighbors.
